Helll Yea!!!! It’s about time, BlackBerry Desktop for Mac!!! Coming in September…

Here’s an interesting factoid you probably didn’t know about our tech-savvy president-elect: He’s a Mac user, according to Telegraph, who compiled a list of 50 facts you might not know about Barack Obama.
And knowing that Obama’s a Mac user, it’s highly likely that his chat client of choice is iChat. Michelle Obama told People magazine that the one gadget her husband would never leave at home is a webcam, which he uses to stay in touch with her and the kids whenever he’s traveling. iChat’s the best Mac app for video chatting, and it’s the easiest to use, too.
He’s not an iPhone user, though. “He says his worst habit is constantly checking his BlackBerry,” Telegraph writes.

Kevin Rose with iPod updates, he describes a new iPod Nano design.  Rumor also has it that OS X will have blu-ray support.  This video backs one of my last posts that shouldn’t purchase a new iPod anytime soon.

Apple finally ready for iTunes subscriptions?

Rumor has it, $129-a-year iTunes service. My main concern is will you be able to buy movies or rent with this subscription?

    Ripping DVDs for Apple TV

    Ripping DVDs for Apple TV

In a couple of month I will be purchasing my Apple TV to stream music and movies to my living room TV.  I have always kept my iTunes music pretty organized with album artwork.  Lately I have been ripping my DVDs and adding them to my iTunes so when I do get my Apple TV I will have everything ready to start streaming.  Since I have a 500 gig hard drive in my iMac I have plenty of space on my hard drive and I can rip and save my movies on my iMac in my iTunes.  The program that I use to rip is called Handbrake; which is a free download.  Here are some instructions to rip your DVDs.

    1.    Open the program and select “Source”.
    2.    Select the DVD
    3.    On the far right you can select the preset formats, if you do not see it then select “Toggle Presets”.
    4.    If you will be watching your DVDs on Apple TV, I suggest just selecting the Apple TV preset.
    5.    Next under “Destination” select where you want the file to rip to
    6.    Once you have everything ready push “Start” at the top
    7.    After its all done you can open up iTunes and add the file

The rip will take as long as the DVD is or how long the chapter is you selected.  Remember if you have your iTunes library set to automatically organize when you add the file it will create a copy in your iTunes library folder. Therefore you are going to want to delete the original file.  Once it is in your iTunes library you can edit the tags.

This was a short run through on how to rip a DVD for iTunes to stream to your Apple TV.  If you need more information on this process of Handbrake, Google is your friend.

    Apple Displays vs Dell Displays

As we all know Apple is known for their pricey fancy designs and what not. I currently own the 24in iMac, so I have been suckered into their computers.  Actually I don’t want to say suckered, I love my computer and I do not regret my purchase my parents purchase at all. As I was browsing around apple.com I noticed how beautiful their 24in displays are, I then thought to my self, “This would be amazing right next to my iMac.  Currently I work tech support for The Education & Human Ecology school at The Ohio State University. All our computer equipment here is Dell.  When we receive new computer purchases we get Dell displays and computers really cheap.  So I did a little comparison with the Dell display and the Apple display.  Here is a look at the difference in specs between the Apple and the Dell.

Moral of the story is, as amazing as the Apple displays are, going with a Dell display is actually the better choice.  Now I know it is hard going with half Apple and half Dell, butttttt your also halving your checking account instead of emptying it.  If you really wanted to you can paint it silver and add some sort of Apple sticker…

My first purchase when I graduate and get the hell out of this dump of a house. Plus when your TV and computer are about 6 feet away from each other, its useless.
